The February employment data released by the Bureau of Labor
Statistics this morning (link) might be labeled “business as usual.” I showed
an employment gain of 243,000 for January. That number was modified upward to
304,000. The results for February fell short of that: 227,000 jobs gained this
month. Better a gain than a loss, but the rhythm is still very slow.
We lost 8.7 million jobs in 2009 and 2010. Since then we’ve
recovered 3.4 million, or 39 percent. Still a long ways to go. Herewith the
